Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of that year.
Success also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.
He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
