Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important official commented the attack left him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
